Who is Royal Soul?
Royal Soul is a streetwear brand that brings an artistic edge to everyday clothing. Designed by Alma Davis, the brand's name has two distinct meanings. The first meaning derives from Alma's name, which means "Soul". Alma is the fourth Alma in her family, and when deciding on a name for her brand, she wanted something that was a part of her and the three other strong, creative, and intelligent queens she is honored to be related to. The second meaning of the clothing line is "Royalty Comes From The Soul".
Royal Soul began by selling and designing t-shirts and sweatshirts, but last year Alma expanded the line to include her own unique designs of coats and jackets. Her designs incorporate a plethora of fabrics such as metallic leather, sequins, abstract print fabrics, zippers, and spikes, all of which add to the artistic edge of the brand.
How Did Alma Get Started in Fashion?
Alma's journey into fashion began as a model, where she noticed that there were not many opportunities for curve models sizes 8 and 10. This motivated her to start her own clothing line, one that would celebrate and cater to all body types. Drawing inspiration from the vibrant graffiti art that surrounds her hometown of Newark, NJ, Alma began designing and selling t-shirts and sweatshirts.

However, because she draws inspiration from men's wear, many people are surprised when they realize that the owner and designer of Royal Soul is a woman. Alma is proud to challenge the status quo and break down gender barriers in the fashion industry.
How Does Alma Define Success as a Designer?
Alma defines a successful designer as an artist who stays true to their aesthetic. She believes that a designer should create clothing that represents their individuality and vision. As a streetwear designer, Alma constantly finds inspiration from aspects of life that relate to streetwear.
What Are Some of Alma's Personal Goals and Aspirations for Her Career?
One of Alma's goals when creating Royal Soul was to show her designs at NYFW. This year, she accomplished that goal by participating in both the Rise NYFW and African by Art NYFW shows. Another goal Alma has for her brand is to have her designs sold in multiple stores across the United States. She understands that this is a long-term goal, but she is excited to continue working towards it.
